After a 2 day stop in Chicago (city seeing, Sears Tower, Hancock Tower plus the stuff in between and a bluescafe) we arrive in sunny but nippy Salt Lake City. The city is very quiet but we are here for the slopes so that's not a problem. We stay in an extremely cheap hotel in suburbia, half an hour away from 4 ski resorts. The skiing is great, the locals reckon these are the best snow conditions in 20 years, the mountains provide a lot of challenging descents and as the weeks pass by more and more snow is falling.

We also get company, our friend Jasper (ski-friend, Dynamic holland owner) and his wife Marlies and the kids Jesse (3), Louke (2) en Fender (0) are holidaying with us for 10 days. Initially in suburbia, but we "upgrade" to Park City (2002 Olympics area) where we all stay in the same hotel. Although we both have our own "programme" we ski together a couple of days, hang out in the swimming pool and discover culinary America (zillions of diner chains...) with the Dijkstra family.

Towards the end of our stay in Park City Lars (Fem's brother) joins us for 2 days of skiing in pretty awesome conditions. (Yes, fresh powder!).

After these welcome visits (who's next?) it's back to the two of us. We decide to go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, an epic ski resort with a cowboy image just south of Yellowstone National Park. On the way we stop in Cokeville (village of 400 people) which has a one lift ski resort Pine Creek, which only opens in the weeknds. So with fresh snow untouched and accumulated for 4 days, we're in for a treat! The night before we visit the local saloon where we drink two too many with some truckers ( no apres-ski but pre-ski - this is Wyoming...). The next day we head to the skifield early, which we just make with our 2WD car and have to shere mnore then a feet of fresh snow with maybe 10 other takers. A super day with heaps of fresh tracks follows. In Jackson Hole we stay for about a week and see some wildlife (elk, deer, moose) and ski in fresh snow every day. Jackson Hole is a great resort with extremely challenging terrain.

After a week we leave with still more snow falling, which seems crazy, but enough is enough. We can talk about skiing for hours but hopefully the pics givce a bit of an idea of the fantastic snow days we had here. Thanks to some great company, fantastic snow and beautiful landscapes we had a great time in the higher mountains, now we're off to the canyons to look at rocks...
