From respectively Uruguay and Las Palmas we would like to wish y´all a happy Xmas and all the very best for 09.
The news from Uruguay is that the car is sold. It was very silent for two weeks until I met a fisherman on the isle of Chiloe; 4 hours later I was on the bus up north with a stash of cash. 34 bussing hours later (I took it in 3 separate hits to be honest) I got to Buenos Aires where I joined in in the backpacker culture, basically pubbing till the next morning, then sleep in, wander through town a bit and getting ready for another big night. Besides that I went to a Boca soccer game which was a brilliant display of South American passion for futbol. Thankfully Boca won and became landskampioen. I then had to escape to Uruguay to take it easy for a couple of days which is exactly what I´m doing right now.
And Fem travelled half the world to eventually meet up with her parents in Las Palmas where they are getting very close to take off for the big Atlantic crossing.
And also the news from Gran Canaria is all good. The sailing yacht Nunki is floating nicely in the harbour of Las Palmas almost all ready for the big trip. After all those years in the yard it is great to see Nunki in the water where it belongs! I am incredibly impressed and proud on what they have achieved so far. A few minor things still have to be resolved and we are waiting for some parts to arrive by courier. Karel and Truus are doing well and are very keen to leave, after these last little 'hickups' are resolved. They have been test sailing the Nunki for the last few months, including a windforce 9 heavy storm in the Mediterranean and a 5 day crossing from Spain to Madeira.
These first few days here I've mainly been recovering from my half-a-round-the-world-trip in 12 days. First several thousand kilometers by bus to get to Buenos Aires. Then about 12,000km by plane to Perth, finished off by a 3 day fly-stopover-fly by plane to the Canary Islands. Probably another 17,000kms. The 5 days I spend in Perth were great, thanks to a lot of catching up and socializing with all the friends back there. And also catching up with the EIW's in their flash new office, John even took me out to see the St. Bennedict's church, one of my projects with EIW.
As a habit the Wostens spend Christmas working away, this time not by moving house but climbing in masts, stashing all the supplies in every little corner we can find and trying to get the communications systems to work properly. So from the Nunki in Las Palmas as well as from Uruguay we wish you all a happy, healthy and fabulous 2009!

HEEL goede reis Fem, Karel en Truus! Nunki ligt er indrukwekkend bij. En natuurlijk gezondheid plus veel reisplezier in 2009, ook voor Hans.

allemaal een heel gelukkig 2009 toegewenst en natuurlijk een goede vaart! Spannend! We gaan met oud en nieuw er eentje op jullie drinken!
Wij hebben een hele goede week gehad in de alpen met verse sneeuw en heel veel zon. (en sommigen onder ons heel veel genepi)
