Let´s say you´d like to buy a car in South America, like we did...
So that´s exactly what we did after we prepared well. We sorted out on the internet where best to buy a car and what paperwork you´d need. We went car hunting in Santiago, Chile, found one, and had a technical inspection done before the deal was sealed. Then we made sure all the paperwork was in order, got the insurrances arranged and even checked whether there was air in the spare tire. We bought some tools so we were ready for any small emergency repairs. We bought some snow chains because the plan was to head out to the snow fields. Then we even bought a proper jack, because the one that came with the car was way too small for a 4WD. All good, laughing!
So what would you say could go wrong???
Anyway the trip went along nicely. After several weeks in the snowy Andes in Chile and Argentina we settle in beautiful Mendoza for a few relaxing days and some paragliding with the excellent local paragliding crowd. Braulio gave us a site induction and Guani and the others all were a nice bunch to hang out with. Braulio even organised a truly great Argentinean asado (bbq) at his place. After a great time in Mendoza and a stop over in Santiago for some more car paperwork we drive 1850km up the Chilean coast to Iquique, a paragliding paradise we also visited 4 years ago. Philip Maltry at Altazor Flypark arranges a renewed site introduction for us and off we go. We meet some great paragliding buddies at the Flypark, Mario from Berlin and Marine from Courchevel and have some fab days. One afternoon the 4 of us drive out to Palo Buque with our car for more paragliding. Palo Bucque is 40kms out of town and a few km´s of the main road. After several hours of playing in the dunes with the gliders we decide to drive back around sunset.
After 5 minutes of driving Hans hears something strange and stops the car, we have a flat tire. No worries, we are all prepared for this! We bring out the tools and the jack and Hans starts undoing the bolts of the wheel, while Mario unscrews the cover plate of the spare tire.....

We could have been in deep sh!t if we would have been out in the desert in the middle of nowwhere out of mobile phone reach....
Luckily Philip Maltry of Flypark and Jarek, a paraglider pilot sprung into action after a phone call from Mario...
And luckily Hans ¨McGyver¨ managed after an hour of trying to actually pick the lock and release the spare tire after all...

Hey daar,
dat slotje lijkt heel veel op het slotje waarmee m'n fiets vorige week vaststond. Ik zal eens een briefje ophangen met het verzoek of de locale "slotenexpert" van Rotterdam Zuid wil afreizen om jullie de volgende keer uit de brand te helpen.
hier verder alles goed. over een maand of 6 is m'n nieuwe huis af en kan ik dit ongezellige flatje definitief verlaten.Roosmarijn en ik hebben het ook nog steeds erg gezellig samen. Wel veel heen en wer rijden tussen helmond en rotterdam natuurlijk. Ik zal m'n reserveband eens checken....
