Since most of you are too busy to read these blogs I´ll try and keep it short. Moreover we´ve been busy as well and because pictures can tell a thousand words we´ll do it like that. Luckily we were able to shoot a few nice pics of colorful Peru. Upon arrival in Lima we were airborne once again within 14 hours, this time paragliding above Lima´s coastline. Nice to fly in front of hotels and appartment flats above the coastal strip. After 2 days in Lima we flew (in an airplane this time) to Cuzco where we went back to school in an attempt to nail the Spanish language. Pretty full on with lessons starting at 8:30 and 6 hours of class a day. In our free weekend we visited Machu Pichu (the most famous city of the Inca empire and the most important archeological site in the Americas), which is as impressive as it was said to be. We also met up with Mariska, a friend of Femke, from the time that Fem studied in Milan, who started a charity foundation in Peru and who is now in Cusco for several workshops..... More details in next blogs as we are going to visit Mariska in her hometown in the north of Peru and hopefully be of some assistance in her charity foundation. Last week Mariska took us to some of her friends in a nearby village where we enjoyed a traditional peruvian lunch, cooked in earth build ovens (see pictures). It was a great meal in great company (Grandma, Anna Maria, Zenon, their 6 children and Mariska of course). After lunch I joined the boys for a game of soccer, an appalling performance from my side which I conveniently blamed on the absence of oxygen at 3700 metres above sealevel. The week thereafter we did a high mountain trekking through the Andes. With our private expedition team (consisting of us, a guide, a cook and two horsemen) we crossed three 4000 meter plus passes (highest point 4500m), passed through many small mountain villages meanwhile camping at night in subzero conditions. Next on our menu are Lake Titicaca and the Colca Canyon (a 3000 metre plus deep canyon), after that we will travel to the North of Peru to visit Mariska´s town, named Cajamarca.
PS1: We also `celebrated´ Corpus Christi, a religuous (catholic) fest, in Cuzco. Main features are numerous processions with ¨Blauwhuster Dakkapel¨ music and eating Chiriuchu (one of the ingredients is Guinea Pig/Cavia which actually tastes quite good).
PS2: We could not walk the classic Inca Trail, it was fully booked till September. So instead we visited Machu Pichu by train and did a different, less known, trail/trek.

I am so happy that your Spanish is not that good (yet) and that the text is just in English. I love the stories and yes maybe we have not time enough, but we definitely should take the time. I now finally see how Peru looks like on photo's. Well done. Keep enjoying this wonderful life you have. Only dissappointed to read that a catholic party with hoempape band did not involve a dress up. On a selfish note: I miss the 2 of you here! -

Roelof had al wat geschreven,maar ik moet ook nog even wat kwijt. Bij het lezen van jullie reisverhalen en het zien van de foto's ben ik even op reis en ik geniet ik enorm van jullie verhalen en foto's. Natuurlijk hebben we tijd om te lezen, alleen reageren we niet altijd. Ga zo door. Liefs Mieke en de rest. -

even kort berichtje. zit ongeveer in de zelfde tijdzone als jullie (MEX) en had even tijd om jullie site weer eens te bekijken. fantastische foto's. moet geweldig vliegen zijn geweest in colombia.
ben benieuwd hoe jullie vrijwilligerswerk gaat.

hallo!!!! wat ben ik blij met jullie bericht dat jullie mariska hebben gevonden! wat gaaf dat jullie haar school nog gaan bezoeken. doe haar heel veel groeten en als we nog kunnen helpen, hoor ik het graag! verder erg stoer de spaanse les en de gave trekking!
